Round and Round is the debut single by Jetanie recording artist Roar, released on 22nd October 2000. The song was produced by Electrobot.

Background[]

Roar wrote the song on 3rd September 2000, in less than five minutes. The following day, he got in touch with Electrobot to produce a beat out of ”what [was] already there”. The song was first revealed to the public when Eoar performed it during Kuboia Support Day on 20th October that year, two days before its initial release. All profits made for the song were put towards Kuboia Support Day the following year.

International release[]

Originally, Roar had no plans to release the song internationally. However, after wanting to tour Europe by 2003, he decided that he should release the track worldwide in order for people to ”realise who [he] is”. The song was released in Europe on 2nd December 2001.

Critical reception[]

The inclusion of the song during Kuboia Support Day was controversial, as it was seen as a joke, intended to attract a lot of attention. Roar commented on the criticism saying ”Come on, guys and gals, I was trying to keep you hyped up for the show. I just wanted to entertain you. The team thought it was a good idea, so we went with it.”

After its official release, the song received positive reviews for its up-tempo build-up and catchy tune.

Zara Dawson version[]

In 2009, Zara Dawson covered the song and put it on Untold. It was released as a promotional single on 18 December 2010. The song is a much slower version.

Music video[]

A music video was released on 29 December 2010. It shows Dawson walking around wearing nothing but a green thong and a sheer green robe, with a “demented” expression on her face. During some parts of the video, Dawson spins around. At the end, she is seen going to sleep.

An alternate version was produced for daytime television, where the robe is purple and Dawson wears black lingerie.

It was filmed a few days before Christmas. Rumour had started that Dawson was making a new music video because there were cameras at her house. Her sister Erika confirmed this, saying “Daqqa. Zara rav lijezi a jez video musinć. Gi rav tup op kœga Round and Round.” (English translation: Yes. Zara is making a new music video. It is for the song Round and Round.)
