A Red Screen of Death (also known as a red screen or RSoD) is an error screen displayed on a TSUG computer system after a fatal system error, also known as a system crash: when the operating system reaches a condition where it can no longer operate safely.

History[]

RSoDs have been present in TS-OS 6 and all TSUG operating systems released afterwards. RSoDs can be caused by poorly written device drivers or malfunctioning hardware, such as faulty memory, power supply issues, overheating of components, or hardware running beyond its specification limits. In TS-OS 6 to TS-UGOS E2, incompatible DLLs or bugs in the operating system kernel could also cause RSoDs. Because of the instability and lack of memory protection in TS-OS 6 to TS-UGOS E2, RSoDs were much more common.

Causes[]

Mods[]

Attempting to modify the system files can cause crashes. The easiest way to fix it is to run the diagnostics tool during start-up and revert the system back to its original factory state without the modification of personal files and applications.

Hardware issues[]

Outdated drivers or issues with existing hardware can cause slow and/or buggy behavior in TSUG. Fixing this is generally easy, usually by updating the driver software or obtaining an updated version of that driver. More commonly or not, the user may have to remove any faulty hardware causing the crash.
