Makohiro was known for being one of the most Japanese-influenced cities outside of Japan. Almost all of the buildings were built using Japanese architecture. Most of its inhabitants were Japanese immigrants.

By the 1950s however, Makohiro became more Westernized. More people of various ethnic origins arrived in Makohiro and the English language was introduced. Makohiro became the main hub for business and government in northern El Kadsre and was declared capital of North El Kadsre in 1958.

In 1982, protests against Vlokozuian rule began in Makohiro. The protests turned into a massacre and served as a catalyst for the fall of the Vlokozu Union.

After the fall of the Union in 1989, Makohiro experienced rapid development.
